Bellevue West Football
Community Service
At Bellevue West, we will ask our players to perform two service projects a year. We try to emphasize that community service does not have to be simply raising money and donating it to a worthy cause or organization. Community service can be the giving of time, talent or labor to a worthy or a needy recipient.
We define community service as giving back to the school and surrounding community through volunteerism. Service is doing something for somebody else without any expectation of getting anything in return. It is a selfless way for teams to give back to their communities.
Our goal is to develop the complete student-athlete. Community service not only benefits the recipients of the good deeds but also benefits the team by infusing leadership skills to the players. This creates team building, organizational skills, and memories outside of the games. I would also contend that the athletes end up benefiting as much as the recipients. It is our opinion that our student-athletes will be far more likely to give back to others around them through volunteerism as they transition into adulthood due to these experiences.

"Beat the Heat" for the Open Door Mission
Each year the Thunderbird Football program teams up with the Open Door Mission to provide bottled water to those in need throughout the Omaha Metropolitan Area. Over the past seven years our players, coaches, and community members have donated over 25,000 bottles of water to those in need and we look forward to growing this event each year!
"Read Across America"
In honor of "Read Across America" and Dr. Seuss week, the Thunderbirds partner up with local elementary schools throughout Bellevue and read to hundreds of students across the city! Some of the tongue twisters provided by Dr. Seuss proved to be as formidable of an opponent as some of the Friday night teams! Find more photos at the link below of the 2020 event!
Special Olympic Bowling & Floor Hockey
Over the past five years the team has donated its time to the Special Olympics organization throughout the community. In 2014 twenty six young men helped with the state bowling competition which was held at Leopard Lanes in Bellevue and for the past two years the team has helped out with the regional floor hockey competition which takes place at UNO.
