Philosophy of the Bellevue West Football Program
H.E.A.T. (Heart Effort Attitude and Toughness)

Philosophy of the Bellevue West Football Program is H.E.A.T. (Heart Effort Attitude and Toughness)
Our football program will be character based, love driven and strive to get the most out of everyone involved. Our football program will focus on developing the characteristics of HEAT. Through participation in our program, we are shaping the future workers, husbands, and fathers of our society.

Heart is at the forefront of our program. Relationships will be forged that will last a lifetime. Coaches should coach and players should play with love in their hearts. The more the program means to a player or coach the more the individual will put into the program. Our players and coaches are expected to be loyal. Do not allow anyone to speak negatively about your teammates or coaches. Heart is developed through the relationships built by staff and teammates, and through each others actions during in-season and off-season commitment. When you love your coaches and teammates and are playing as hard as you can for the guy next to you and your coaches rather than yourself, the team will benefit.

Effort is the next pillar in our program. Individuals rarely look back and wished they hadn’t worked so hard; most look back and wish they had worked harder. We will ask our players and coaches to give everything they have in everything that they do. Possessing a great work ethic is one of the greatest qualities any person can ever have. Each of us is in complete control of how hard we attack each day and each task in front of us. If you work as hard as you can and put forth a great effort all the time, we will have a great team. Every day is an opportunity to get a little bit better. Be disciplined and pay attention to the small details because when push comes to shove, our faults will be magnified. To be successful, “It takes what it takes.” Nick Saban

Attitude is a very powerful attribute and extremely contagious. We need to be hungry for success. It is not enough to be competitive, men in our program are competing to be successful. Win or lose we will be humble in our actions. We will coach with and demand a positive attitude and language from our players. We expect our coaches and players to be enthusiastic and expect great things to happen because of our belief. Our belief is rooted in the effort and preparation that we put in daily. Our coaches and players will show a passion for football, which will become contagious throughout the school and community.

Toughness is the final characteristic our program will be built from. Football is a tough game for tough people. You will get knocked down, you have to keep getting up with a more determined effort to be successful. Our players will demonstrate physical toughness through the basic fundamentals of running, blocking and tackling. Mental toughness will be demonstrated with a focused determination to be leaders in all that we do. We expect our players to be role models both on and off the field. We will speak to adults with respect using the staples, “Yes sir, yes ma’am, no sir, no ma’am, please and thank you.” We will hold each other accountable for living a championship lifestyle. We will never quit on or off the field.
When your program is full of coaches and young people who are making a conscious effort to develop H.E.A.T, success will be an obvious by product. Our young men will enjoy success not only on Friday nights, but also in life.
